Your training at Sport-Thieme
You can expect a company that thinks sustainably, where training is highly valued. Many of us completed our own training here and are still an important part of the Sport-Thieme team.
From day one, you’ll be actively involved as a team member in a 38.5-hour week with flexible working hours. In many training roles, you’ll have the opportunity to work independently at your own ergonomic workstation with your company laptop. In logistics, you’ll receive your own work materials and have the chance to earn a forklift license.
Our training roles
We offer training in a total of eight different roles. You can find out which of these eight roles are available in the current training year by checking our latest job postings, which are published around mid-August every year. Start your logistics training with us and be involved in the action from day one – from goods receipt to order picking, loading, transportation, and packaging. Within the first few weeks, you’ll earn your forklift license. We’ll make sure you’re well-trained in workplace safety and environmental protection. The choice is yours: opt for the two-year training as a warehouse specialist or the more in-depth, three-year training as a logistics specialist!
During your 3-year training, you’ll get to know all the core tasks across up to 12 different departments and actively contribute. You’ll learn how goods purchasing is managed, sell products both domestically and internationally, assist our customers, and ensure that all logistical processes run smoothly. Additionally, you’ll gain proficiency in e-business, IT security, and e-commerce. At events like career fairs or sports conferences, you’ll represent us and gather valuable experience.
In the training as an IT specialist for application development, everything revolves around software development. In projects, you plan, design, and program various applications and programs. You also develop user-friendly interfaces. Additionally, you will work on customizing the inventory management system, interface development, and database maintenance. With the right qualifications and motivation, you’ll quickly take on responsibility within our IT team.
In the training as an IT specialist for system integration, you plan and configure IT systems according to the needs of internal teams in an agile work environment. You will also work with server and network administration as well as software management. Additionally, you’ll learn to use exciting cyber security tools and analyze incidents. When issues arise, you’ll systematically troubleshoot errors or advise users on selecting and using their devices.
During your 3-year training as a marketing communications specialist, you’ll learn everything about targeted marketing and communication strategies. In addition to producing a variety of promotional materials, you’ll assist your team in planning and executing various projects and campaigns. You’ll also dive into the world of public relations and ensure that our trade fair and conference appearances are tailored to the theme and audience.
Sport-Thieme creates a variety of print marketing materials like catalogs, flyers, advertisements, and more in-house. From day one, during your training as a media designer for digital and print, you’ll be involved in the design and conception of our promotional materials. Alongside digital image editing, you’ll learn about database-supported catalog production and gain insights into how we create content for social media and our online stores. You’ll have the freedom to let your creativity flow on your own modern Apple workstation, equipped with up-to-date software.
During your 3-year training as an e-commerce merchant, you’ll learn everything essential about online marketing and e-commerce: from the commercial management of our marketing channels to independent project work in online marketing. You’ll play an important role in managing our 6 online stores and virtual marketplaces. By analyzing our target audiences, you’ll help design shop features based on their preferences. You’ll also assist in presenting content across all our channels in a way that’s tailored to our over 1 million online shop visitors.
Compensation
The high value we place on our trainees is also reflected in our training salaries. We offer our trainees an attractive salary that typically increases from year to year. Currently, the salary structure is as follows:
- 1st year: €1,051 gross per month
- 2nd year: €1,144 gross per month
- 3rd year: €1,211 gross per month
Of course, with 30 days of vacation per year, there’s plenty of time for rest and relaxation. Sport-Thieme supports you in both your professional and personal development. Throughout your training, current trainees will act as mentors, always ready to assist you with any questions you may have. Because for us, your training is above all: an investment in the future!

The trainee trip is a great way to kick off your training. Every year at the start of the program, trainees and trainers travel to a new destination together. Through team-building activities and leisure programs, trainees from all year groups get to know each other better. The focus is on the theme “Strong Self – Strong Team,” with challenges that can only be solved through teamwork.
Do you have the courage and are looking for an adrenaline rush? During your training at Sport-Thieme, you can show what you’re made of with a skydiving experience! Together with an experienced tandem master, you’ll go up to around 4,000 meters. At 1,500 meters, the tandem master will open the parachute, and you’ll take control. The jump feels more like flying than falling – an unforgettable experience! PS: The jump is, of course, voluntary.
Thursdays are for trainee sports! For 90 minutes, our trainees come together to try out different sports under the guidance of Torsten Dill from the Helmstedt Sports Association. During these sessions, we also get to know our Sport-Thieme products better. Trainee sports count as paid working hours. While fun is the main focus, it’s also about getting to know the products we sell worldwide. It’s a great advantage to try out the sports equipment yourself – that way, you can provide better advice and impress customers. Look forward to exciting hours of trainee sports!
Once a month, our trainees meet with training manager Nadine to learn something new. During the trainee meet-ups, we exchange ideas, take on moderations, and present products and departments – helping us gain confidence in presenting to larger groups. At the same time, we expand our product knowledge and get to know different areas of the company. Guest lectures from colleagues broaden our knowledge in topics like artificial intelligence, workplace safety, sustainability, and social media. The meet-ups are a great change of pace and offer lots of fun in exchanging ideas and exploring new topics.
During the training, we regularly offer our trainees exciting projects that require responsibility and are mostly carried out independently. These include, for example, participating in the Aerie Festival in Querenhorst, sustainability projects like building an insect hotel with our company owner Katharina, and landscaping with NABU. Designing the Eduki learning platform and many other interesting tasks are also part of the experience.
The international internship
Our wholesale and foreign trade trainees have the opportunity to complete a three-week international internship in Ireland through their vocational school. They live with a host family, work at a company, and immerse themselves in Irish daily life and culture.
The internship placements are individually arranged by an organization. In addition to improving English skills and gaining intercultural competencies, this experience also boosts self-confidence. There are numerous opportunities to interact with students from other countries, both at work and during leisure time. With a provided bus ticket, trainees can easily explore the region, and on free weekends, excursions offer a chance to discover the island independently.
