Are you interested in applying with us? We’re excited to hear from you!
Here, you’ll find all the essential details about our application process – from the first step to a successful onboarding. Learn how our procedure works, who your contacts in HR are, and how we will support you during your first weeks with us.
We place great importance on transparency because we know how crucial it is to have a clear understanding right from the start. This way, you’ll know what to expect and can move through the process confidently.
1. Confirmation of Receipt and Review of Your Application
After submitting your application, you will immediately receive a confirmation email, along with some exciting information about our company and fun sports videos. Following that, the relevant department (e.g., Marketing, Logistics, etc.) will review your application. Does your profile match the job requirements and the values of Sport-Thieme? The department will decide whether they would like to meet you in person.
2. First Meeting via Video Interview
To get to know you as a person and learn about your professional background, we typically arrange a virtual video interview as the first step. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about us and get a sense of what it’s like to work at Sport-Thieme. The conversation usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. You’ll have the chance to ask any questions about the job and the company directly to the respective department.
3. In-Person Meeting
If both you and we feel positive about the initial interview, we will schedule an in-person meeting as the next step. The location of this meeting depends on the office you applied to. During this meeting, we will dive deeper into the details of the role and its requirements. You will also get a first look at your potential future workspace and may even meet colleagues from the department!
4. Decision and Job Offer
If both sides are happy after the second interview, nothing stands in the way of us working together. If you’re convinced that Sport-Thieme is the right fit and we’re equally impressed with you, we will reach out with a formal job offer. After that, we’ll finalize the contract, and we’ll be thrilled to welcome you to the Sport-Thieme team! 😊
Good to Know
Depending on the position, we may also incorporate online tests and phone interviews into the selection process. The order of steps 2 and 3 may vary depending on the role. If there are any delays in the process, we’ll be in touch to keep you informed.
Our Onboarding Process
What happens next? To ensure a successful start after the application process, we’ve created a structured onboarding process at Sport-Thieme. Our “360° Onboarding” consists of three key elements:
Basic Onboarding
The basic onboarding usually takes place within the first 4 weeks, during which you’ll get to know several core departments. The focus is on learning about the tasks carried out in each department (motto: “What is done here?”).
At the same time, you will spend plenty of time in your own department to familiarize yourself with your responsibilities. On your first day, you’ll also meet your designated buddy, who will give you a tour of the office and assist you with any questions.
Throughout your first weeks, you’ll receive helpful tips and insights about working at Sport-Thieme, making your integration easier and smoother.
Intensive Onboarding
After the basic onboarding, your supervisor will work with you to identify which departments or processes would benefit from more in-depth training. Here, the “What” from the basic onboarding will be complemented with the “How.” The selection of training modules will be tailored to your individual needs and the specific requirements of your role and its connection to other departments.
Specialized Training
In addition to the standardized basic onboarding and your customized intensive onboarding, you’ll also receive specialized training, relevant both to your general role at Sport-Thieme and your specific job. For example, this includes training to better understand our customers and communication workshops.
Your contact persons
Our contact persons for any questions regarding the application process.
In our job ads and on our careers page, we usually address candidates with the informal “du”. To start the application process on a respectful and professional note, we switch to the formal “Sie”. From your first day with us at the latest, we return to our “du culture”, which we live across the company – from apprentices to senior leadership.
Which type of application is preferred: email, online or paper?
At Sport-Thieme, all forms of application are welcome. We prefer to receive your documents digitally via the application forms on our careers page or by email, as this helps us work in a more sustainable and resource-friendly way. If you don’t have another option, you’re also welcome to send your application by post.
What does a complete application at Sport-Thieme include?
Your current CV and your most relevant (work) references are all we need. You’re welcome to add a cover letter, but it’s not mandatory. Feel free to use it if you’d like to share a bit more about yourself and your motivation.
What happens after I submit my application?
If your profile is shortlisted, you’ll usually be invited to an initial interview, either via video call or on site. In some cases, we also use an online assessment, either at the start of the process or after the first conversation. Depending on the role, there may be a second in-person interview, where you’ll meet parts of the Thieme team and get to know your potential future work environment.
When can I expect feedback?
Right after submitting your application, you’ll receive an automatic confirmation of receipt. We then review your documents carefully and get back to you as soon as possible. If there are any delays, we’ll keep you informed proactively.
How long can I apply for a position?
You can apply as long as the position is listed on our careers page. Our tip: apply soon after the role is published – especially for apprenticeships – so you can be involved early in the process.
Can I apply for more than one position at the same time?
Yes, you can apply for multiple suitable roles at Sport-Thieme in parallel. It’s important that your documents clearly show why you’re interested in each specific position and what skills, experience and strengths you bring to the table.
Can I submit a speculative application to Sport-Thieme?
Absolutely. We’re always interested in meeting new talent and curious personalities. The best way is to use the speculative application form on our careers page and upload your documents digitally. We’ll review your profile and check whether there are suitable opportunities. If there’s no immediate match, we may add your application to our talent pool for future roles, provided there’s mutual interest.
Who is my contact person? Who should I address my cover letter to?
Your main point of contact is usually Niko Gülle from our HR team. Exceptions apply: for our Berlin location, Anna-Sophie Keller is responsible; for apprenticeships, Nadine Masa; and for school internships, Carolin Pissarczyk. You’ll find their contact details further down the page. If you include a cover letter, please address it to the contact person named in the job posting – this creates a personal introduction and shows who to reach out to with role-specific questions.
Onboarding & Development
What does the onboarding process look like?
First of all, we’re excited to welcome you as a new member of the Thieme team. Our onboarding process supports you before, during and after your start with us. It includes a clear, step-by-step introduction to your tasks and our workflows. You’ll be supported by a buddy from your team and, depending on your role, gain insights into other departments to experience Sport-Thieme and cross-team collaboration from day one.
What learning and development opportunities are available?
Learning is part of everyday work at Sport-Thieme. You’ll receive thorough initial training, take part in regular internal sessions on topics such as artificial intelligence and IT security, and can register for external courses as well. Your development goals and perspectives are discussed openly in regular conversations with your manager.
